AI Tools for the UF community
The University of Florida is committed to providing our community with cutting-edge AI tools that enhance teaching, learning and research. Our AI resources are designed to support students, faculty and staff in exploring new possibilities.
What is Agentic AI?
The most recent evolution in artificial intelligence is the introduction of agentic AI. Agentic AI, also referred to as “AI agents,” is a new class of AI systems that are semi- or fully autonomous. AI agents are empowered to take action on behalf of you and can be integrated with other software systems to complete tasks independently.
Use and Deployment of AI Agentic Tools at UF
In accordance with the UF’s Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence Policy, all individuals using AI systems in connection with university activities must adhere to all applicable UF regulations, policies and guidelines, and are limited to using AI systems approved through UF’s Integrated Risk Management (IRM) process.
Visit Fast Path Solutions (FPS) to view the list of pre-assessed software and hardware solutions maintained by UF Information Technology’s IRM team. Faculty, staff and students can use products listed on FPS without additional administrative or compliance review, depending on the data classification.
AI Tools being approved for use
One important branch of agentic AI is agentic coding, where AI tools can assist with activities such as code generation, software prototyping, developer support, and other technical workflows
UFIT is evaluating solutions for agentic coding and has identified Opencode and Pi that can be used in conjunction with the NaviGator AI Toolkit, as both tools are considered for FPS.
Training Opportunities
UFIT is developing a series of workshops and training materials, including videos and documentation, to help faculty, staff, and students navigate the new space of AI tools and agents.

Traditional enterprise software is developed using software engineering best practices, built on decades of cumulative experience, and has functional limitations. AI tools, especially generative AI tools and AI agents are driven by AI models, such as large language models (LLM). These models, while powerful, do not have similar operational restrictions. The risk surrounding agentic AI is higher as AI agents operate with only what are called “guardrails.” These guardrails, however, cannot prevent an agent from completing an action.
UFIT’s AI and Platform Engineering team supports NaviGator AI.
UFIT Research Computing assists UF faculty and campus research consulting.
UFIT’s AI2 Center can answer general questions about AI and AI tools.
